Rainy Days and Sundays…

In the few days since I’ve been in northern California, I think I’ve seen more rain than I saw in Manhattan Beach all year! I actually don’t mind it. I missed “weather” in southern California. I actually looked up the stats: more than twice as much rain here per year, and most of it falls in the winter. The locals… Continue reading

Big Announcement

Well, it’s been official for a few days. I just have been to busy to make the announcement public. The house here in Manhattan Beach is sold. A house near the top of the hill in Sausalito has been purchased. After over 3.5 years of living in the LA area, I will actually miss things about it, especially the vigorous… Continue reading

Thanks, Rumors, & Rambling Around

I received many well wishes via email, phone calls, cards, text messages, and Facebook posts. Odd how birthday wishes have so changed over the years! Thanks to everyone for thinking of me. My favorite present so far: the horrendously loud and noisy neighbors lost their rental agreement and had to move. I know that sounds unkind, but you didn’t have… Continue reading

One of the All Time Greats

I have seen a handful of stunning sunsets in my lifetime. I’ve only taken pictures of one of them. Tonight, here in Manhattan Beach, was one of the all time greats, ranking up there with the photos I shot of the sunset at Muir Beach. Once again, I didn’t have my good camera with me. I took several pictures with… Continue reading

Imagine My Delight…

I’ve blogged about my recent encounters with @Verizon when upgrading the TiVo with the Fios service here at the house.  In addition to the Twitter replies to me from Verizon following up, today I got a followup phone call from Ralph, the technician who installed the M-CableCard and got everything working wonderfully.  He wanted to be sure everything was satisfactory.… Continue reading

Weekends in LA

I’ve really been fortunate to live in and around very beautiful areas.  The South Bay area is quite lovely.  Last weekend was so typical:  gorgeous sunny weather on the coast.  Saturday featured a day trip to Palos Verdes and Rancho Palos Verdes, just south of Manhattan Beach.  Sunday featured a day trip north to Malibu. So here are some photos… Continue reading

Help, I’m Melting…

Today was the hottest day on record in LA:  113º!  It even reach 100º here in Manhattan Beach.  I had to turn on the air conditioning!  Thank god we don’t have humidity, or I certainly would be a puddle now.… Continue reading

Two Earthquakes

Last night, around 2:00AM and just now, we have had two earthquakes that shook the house.  These were very short in duration and located out in the bay, just off the coast here in Manhattan Beach. This is a link to the data about the most recent earthquake.  And this is a link to the data about the earthquake in… Continue reading

Vietnam: Day Six – Eco-Friendly Beach Cleaning at Sunrise

Every morning in Manhattan Beach, a large truck pulls a huge raking mechanism along the beach to pick up all of the trash* the tide and beach goers left behind. In the past I’ve actually posted a picture of what that looks like. This morning I got up early to photograph the sunrise. The thick layer of fog over the… Continue reading
