West Peak, Mount Tamalpais: Mother Nature’s Drama

A week ago today I was hunkered down on the west peak of Mount Tamalpais. I felt as though I were on top of the world because the wind was blasting dense fog straight toward me, just barely over my head. I could reach up and almost touch this ceiling of fog. Coming from the Pacific Ocean, the rapidly moving… Continue reading

He Said the Most Unexpected Thing…

Yes, I live in a liberal place and just couldn’t be happier about that! A couple of weeks ago we were hanging out in one of our favorite places in the Headlands—a bench that sits high above the ground so your legs can swing underneath as you gaze at the bay, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the city. A handful… Continue reading

Um, Isn’t That a Bobcat?

We were out walking in the headlands along the Pacific Ocean rim yesterday, showing my cousin our backyard. I was leading the pack, looking back as I was talking to them. When I turned to face the trail ahead, I saw a young bobcat about 2 feet ahead of me just off to the left of the trail. Oh, my… Continue reading

Sunday Morning at Battery Spenser

I thought, “Well, while I’m here…” So, after shooting the pano of the Golden Gate Bridge, I shot this pano of one of the many batteries that guarded the entrance to the bay: Battery Spenser. Our exit into Sausalito is the Spenser exit, named after this battery which is close by.… Continue reading

Sunday Morning at the Golden Gate Bridge

Yesterday we headed out to the Golden Gate Bridge at Battery Spenser—probably the most common area from which people view the bridge in the headlands. We went early in the morning so as to avoid the crowds and to be able to find a place to park. The weather was cold and windy, well… rather typical. However, despite looking quiet… Continue reading

Last Weekend in iPhoneography

This past weekend was spent romping around the Headlands. Saturday we took an on-site class in the geology of Point Bonita followed by working at the lighthouse. Since the weather was gorgeous, we had over 500 visitors. On Sunday we went back and roamed to the edge of the coast. I shot several experimental pictures of Steve at different forts.… Continue reading

The Week in iPhoneography

I’ve mentioned before that I really like the @KitCam and @PhotoForge2 iPhone apps. This first photo of the Golden Gate Bridge is another example of what they can do. The remainder of the photos were just shot with KitCam, my Instagram replacement choice. I really like these iOS apps! (Clicking any image opens a larger view of the photo.)  … Continue reading

Hiking the Headlands

I’ve raved non-stop about how gorgeous the headlands are–65,000 acres of unspoiled, ocean-side wilderness. I can’t overstate how much I love romping around there. The smells of the plant life are like nothing I ever experienced on the east coast. Love it! At any rate, yesterday, we hiked .4 miles up Slacker Hill, a rather serious incline, to check out… Continue reading
