Texas Power Companies Control Residents’ Thermostats Remotely

Wow! Texans are always very verbal about government telling them what to do. They won’t have it! They want freedom – whatever the hell that is. Yet they let corporations control their home thermostats remotely. Now, that’s FREEDOM!

Power companies in Texas are remotely raising temperatures inside of some customers’ homes amid the state’s ongoing energy shortage.

Residents with Google’s Nest thermostats received messages noting that their temperatures had been adjusted during an “Energy Rush Hour.”

The issue comes shortly after the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), the state’s power grid manager, called on customers to reduce their energy usage and adjust their thermostats to 78 degrees or higher.

Apparently, the Google Nest can be remote controlled by the power companies! They raised their customers’ thermostats to 78º, and they woke up sweating! That’s a really good reason not to have a “connected home.” It’s like living in the matrix! The big bad machine in the sky controls your life, and there’s nothing you can do about it.

I’m not a Texan, and I’m outraged over it! I assume they are storming the Bastille – or would it be the Alamo down there? Whatever…

Anyway, we had a Nest thermostat in the last 2 houses we owned. We will never have another one. I hate Google anyway. I’m sick of the surveillance society. I’m disgusted with the total lack of privacy and personal control.
