That’s how I see this unholy alliance between the extremist fundamentalist religious movement and the Republican party.
When I was a child the Republican party stood for fiscal conservancy/responsibility and personal freedom/libertarianism. Today, thanks to the work of Karl Rove and extremist religious leaders, the Republican party can’t be conservative enough to win the extremists’ votes. Regrettably, the extremists actually go to the polls! You know that the party has awakened in hell when you read this at, of all places, the Drudge Report, the defacto Republican party website:
SANTORUM’S SATAN WARNING
Tue Feb 21 2012 09:27:20 ET“Satan has his sights on the United States of America!” Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum has declared.
“Satan is attacking the great institutions of America, using those great vices of pride, vanity, and sensuality as the root to attack all of the strong plants that has so deeply rooted in the American tradition.”
The former senator from Pennsylvania warned in 2008 how politics and government are falling to Satan.
“This is a spiritual war. And the Father of Lies has his sights on what you would think the Father of Lies would have his sights on: a good, decent, powerful, influential country – the United States of America. If you were Satan, who would you attack in this day and age?”
“He attacks all of us and he attacks all of our institutions.”
Santorum made the provocative comments to students at Ave Maria University in Florida.
The White House contender described how Satan is even taking hold of some religions.
“We look at the shape of mainline Protestantism in this country and it is in shambles, it is gone from the world of Christianity as I see it.”
Developing…
The Republican party realizes this man is a nut case and appear powerless to prevent him from assuming their nomination?! The religious extremists have worked diligently for decades to take over the Republican party, and if Rick Santorum gets their nomination, they will once again have accomplished their goals. (George W. Bush was another religious extremist they got elected, and look what that buffoon did to the nation.)
Inconceivably, in my mind, Rick Santorum is more dangerous than George W. Bush or Sarah Palin ever thought of being! The Republican party needs to come to grips with this issue, define a meaningful identity for itself, and boot the loonies to the margins of their party if pander to them at all! These people are anything but mainstream! And the mainstream media needs to start informing the US about Santorum’s insane ideas.
One final piece of this rant: I find it interesting that of all of the candidates, Santorum has given the least to charity of any of them (1.4% of his income), and Obama has given the most even though his income is second from the bottom. Santorum is nothing less than a two bit hypocrite!

scary – and I hate the way that Santorum and Gingrich set themselves up as good cathloics – they aren’t. They are just as much cafeteria catholics as anyone – they didn’t agree with the Bishops on the Iraq War, on the death penalty, on poverty and so many more issues.
Agreed!!!
