This morning I left Oslo  and headed off to Geilo, the first stop in route to the fjords.  I stayed at the historic Dr. Holms Hotel, dating from November, 1909.

The hotel was built by the doctor to serve as a sanatorium to provide fresh air to those who suffered from asthma.  The hotel was taken over by the Germans in WWII to house sailors from German submarines.

This hotel has welcomed many famous guests and international meetings.  Geilo is a popular ski resort, and the Dr. Holms Hotel serves as a well recommended lodge with numerous quaint rooms for hosting, reading, eating, drinking, etc.

Several pictures of the hotel are featured at the end of this album.
