I took these pictures when I was in Athens, Greece, in November, 2003. They were frantically preparing for the 2004 Summer Olympics. Frankly, the place was a wreck, and I just didn't think they would ever be ready!

The island of Burano, where two older men with weather-worn faces, arm in arm, roamed the streets singing. They were just having the best of times. And I think they were sober!

The first night in Paris we walked for miles to get to these two sites. I have seldom been so cold. The wind almost blew me off the top of the Eiffel Tower!

A visit to the Louvre in November, 2003. Stunning! My trip to Paris greatly enhanced my enjoiment of Dan Brown's novel, The Da Vinci Code.

I can only imagine how expensive and difficult living in this place would be!
