Sunday Hike: Coastal Trail

I love hiking the Pacific Coast trail! Yesterday was a great hike. The weather was perfect! Over 5 miles and up 49 floors-worth of steps! While you will probably not be able to see it in the small pictures below, they do show the Golden Gate Bridge in the far left. Below is the map of our hike. We started… Continue reading

Um, Isn’t That a Bobcat?

We were out walking in the headlands along the Pacific Ocean rim yesterday, showing my cousin our backyard. I was leading the pack, looking back as I was talking to them. When I turned to face the trail ahead, I saw a young bobcat about 2 feet ahead of me just off to the left of the trail. Oh, my… Continue reading

When It Happens…

It happens really quickly! I was “camped out” atop Hawk Hill, determined I was going to shoot a time lapse of the fog burning off the Golden Gate Bridge, the bay, and the city. The whole area was completely socked in with dense, fast moving fog. Torrents of fog were moving in over my head and down on top of… Continue reading

Roaming Around Land’s End

When the Sistoid Unit came to visit back in the summer, we explored part of the Land’s End area of San Francisco. I’ve tried to get Steve go to ever since, but one thing and then another. Well, today, first thing this morning, we went exploring. I used the time to scout for later photos with my “real” camera equipment.… Continue reading

Volunteering at the Lighthouse

I really enjoy being a docent at the Point Bonita Lighthouse. Saturday was particularly noteworthy. I seriously thought the lighthouse would be closed because of weather, but at the last minute, the day cleared up nicely. Well, until a couple of brief storms rushed in from the Pacific! We close the bridge when the wind reaches 27mph. And while it… Continue reading

Another Pano from Mount Tamalpais

I absolutely love the views from the top of Mount Tamalpais! The fog below adds a very unique ambience. As far as you can see in any direction: no development, just mountains and gorgeous rolling hills. This pano was short further north along Ridgecrest Blvd.… Continue reading

Ansel Adams (Me) at Work Atop Mount Tam

Steve took a picture of me today (right) while I was setting up to shoot a panorama. He published it to Facebook. A friend of his said I looked like Ansel Adams. (I’ll take that compliment though completely undeserved.) Another friend of his thought I was setting up to shoot (kill) some poor living creature (called a pano?). No, no,… Continue reading

Final Pano from the Sistoid’s Visit: Mount Tamalpais

This pano from atop Mount Tamalpais in the Marin Headlands provides another stunning view of the Pacific Ocean, which was partially covered by a thick blanket of fog. In the distance you can see Mill Valley, Belvedere, Tiburon, Angel Island, Sausalito, and the Marin Headlands. The bay area is well-known for its micro climates. Unlike below the fog layer, here… Continue reading

The Edge of Paradise

Today the fog came blasting in from the Pacific Ocean. I walked down to Fort Baker to shoot and found the wind so strong out on the jetty that I seriously thought if it got any worse, I would have to get down on my hands and knees and crawl back to the car. But when I turned and walked… Continue reading

Gated Entry

After 2 days of fog, I shot this with my little iPhone up at Cavallo Point this afternoon. The walk up the steep hill in the gutsy, gusty, cool breeze/wind was tremendously invigorating. I absolutely feast on the cool air from the Pacific Ocean. The beauty of the bay area just feeds my soul.… Continue reading
