New Zealand: Day 11 – Wanaka

Today we drove back along the front of The Remarkables along Lake Wakatipu, heading toward Queenstown. This is such a gorgeous drive. We stopped for a bathroom break at a little roadside shop in the middle of nothing. They had all kinds of artist’s wares in this quaint little café. We also stopped in Kingston again, but this time we… Continue reading

New Zealand: Day 6 – Mount Cook [Updated]

Weather The weather here is very changeable to be sure, but today, near the base of Aoraki Mount Cook, the weather was mostly the same: heavy, low cloud cover and constant drizzle or rain. We never saw Mount Cook. In fact, a few times we couldn’t see anything. We had scheduled a private flight around the mountain range, including a… Continue reading

You’re Kidding Me, Right?!

Today I was out shooting video and got fried alive. Terrible sunburn! Can you believe?! I get burned in the cool breeze off the ocean on a completely overcast day?! When will I learn?! Here are two pictures from the day…     One good thing from the day (actually this was a wonderful day all around), over 20,000 steps… Continue reading

Bitten By Bodega Bay Bug

We spent this weekend up at Bodega Bay. I’ve always thought Bodega Bay was a nice place, but on this trip we found Bodega Head. It’s gorgeous! A mini headlands that is every bit as dramatic! Now, as a result, I’m way into Bodega Bay: headlands with gorgeous hiking trails, whale watching, a lovely calm bay, a thriving fishing industry… Continue reading

Sunday Hike: Coastal Trail

I love hiking the Pacific Coast trail! Yesterday was a great hike. The weather was perfect! Over 5 miles and up 49 floors-worth of steps! While you will probably not be able to see it in the small pictures below, they do show the Golden Gate Bridge in the far left. Below is the map of our hike. We started… Continue reading

Um, Isn’t That a Bobcat?

We were out walking in the headlands along the Pacific Ocean rim yesterday, showing my cousin our backyard. I was leading the pack, looking back as I was talking to them. When I turned to face the trail ahead, I saw a young bobcat about 2 feet ahead of me just off to the left of the trail. Oh, my… Continue reading

Heaven Is Just a 4 Mile Roundtrip

Sunday we walked to Tennessee Valley Beach. We’ve walked there several times in the past. I’ve even biked there once (thought I was going to die—so out of shape!). What made this last jaunt special was that we hiked up to a 100+ year old lookout along the ridge. According to my new Fitbit, it was the equivalent of walk… Continue reading

The Pinkerton Took a Stroll

Today The Pinkerton decided to go for a walk along the Pacific Ocean.  In fact, he went walking at Malaga Cove, but not at the top of the cove, where you usually find me.  He wanted to go walking down along the extremely rocky coastline right by the ocean.  The walk was exhausting with the rugged rocks constantly shifting under… Continue reading
