I Need Everyone’s Opinion

This is my first experiment with the GBDeflicker plugin from Granite Bay for After Effects.  The plugin offers two main variables for removing flicker.  One is the number of frames over which the brightness of a single frame is averaged.  I chose 30 (the maximum) as this time lapse is plagued with bad flicker.  The other is to “Favor brightness”… Continue reading

The Pinkerton Took a Stroll

Today The Pinkerton decided to go for a walk along the Pacific Ocean.  In fact, he went walking at Malaga Cove, but not at the top of the cove, where you usually find me.  He wanted to go walking down along the extremely rocky coastline right by the ocean.  The walk was exhausting with the rugged rocks constantly shifting under… Continue reading

The Cove: Cool Cloud Action, Beautiful Sunset

Yes, Malaga Cove is one of my favorite places near where I live.  Shooting time lapse there is easy as I’m involved in a writing project.  I just set up the camera, let it click away, and write.  It’s an inspirational place to accomplish a writing task! For the technically inclined: Yes, lots of flicker since I used FCP.  I… Continue reading

A Moment of Zen from the Pacific Ocean

On Sunday I shot a time lapse of the dramatic arrival of a storm front from the Pacific Ocean. Yesterday I shot a sunset at the same location, one of my favorites, Malaga Cove. Standing at maybe about 1,000 feet above the ocean, you can watch small puffs of clouds flow in and up the walls of the cove. As… Continue reading

A House by the Park

Mike Davidson (of Mike Industries) created a blog documenting his “first-hand chronology of the design, planning, and construction of a modern home in Seattle.”  He leaves no stone unturned as he presents the cost of every aspect of the project, frequent posts throughout the project from planning to tear down to completion, complete with a time lapse of the entire… Continue reading

Weekends in LA

I’ve really been fortunate to live in and around very beautiful areas.  The South Bay area is quite lovely.  Last weekend was so typical:  gorgeous sunny weather on the coast.  Saturday featured a day trip to Palos Verdes and Rancho Palos Verdes, just south of Manhattan Beach.  Sunday featured a day trip north to Malibu. So here are some photos… Continue reading

Mike Flores Baja CA Time Lapse

This time lapse of Baja, California, by Mike Flores is pretty cool work. I especially appreciate the attention to the music cue and the sunrise about two-thrids of the way through. On his Vimeo site, Mike says: This is a little compilation of timelapses I’ve shot down in Baja California this year. There’s a mix of DSLRs and lenses used… Continue reading

Malaga Cove Time Lapse (Noon)

This is the second time lapse I shot at Malaga Cover yesterday.  This one was shot at ISO 100 with a 5 second interval and includes a bit of panning.  As you can see from the comment at the other Malaga Cove time lapse, I met lots of interesting people yesterday morning. So, here is the noon time lapse of… Continue reading
