R.I.P. Aretha Franklin

Through the years I’ve attended numerous pop concerts. I found that a surprising percentage of the performers, typically greats from yesteryear, were physically on the stage “giving a concert,” but their heart wasn’t into it at all. In fact, on a couple of occasion I felt as though the audience was getting ripped off.

Not so with Aretha Franklin. When I saw her in the mid-90’s, she was fully present. She expressed her soul. She adored her audience. Everyone had a wonderful evening.

I love her story. I love her musical contribution. She left the world a better place.
