Sometimes you take a punch to the gut when you realize just how astonishingly manipulative and brazenly dishonest people can be, especially when the stakes are high and massive amounts of money are at stake.
An Example: Liars Lie
My sister told me today in a phone call that she was really shocked to learn that even President Obama has refused to support Hillary Clinton. Now, to say the least, I was caught off guard.
“What do you mean Obama doesn’t support Hillary for POTUS? Didn’t you watch the convention?”
“No. All of that stuff just makes me mad.”
Well, to paraphrase Obama, “Don’t get mad. VOTE!” And in order to make an important decision, you must know the facts.
My sister received an email from god-knows-who boldly claiming that Obama refuses to support Clinton for president. And, living in the deep, deep south, where so many people are too busy trying to survive to spend the time required to be informed, she hears these ignorant, uninformed people spouting horse poo. They don’t even realize they are being manipulated and taken advantage of. I can’t tell you how angry that makes me. Ignorance infuriates me, but malevolent manipulation to take advantage of others boils my blood.
As we talked, I realized that she literally knows all but nothing about the people running, only what uninformed people have told her. We need Florida to make a carefully thought-out choice in this election! Apparently few people go to primary sources. Few people take the required time to cultivate trusted sources of information.
I am not dogging out my sister or others who lack the time or the interest. I am, however, pleading with people to go to primary and trusted sources of information to be and remain informed! In this election, where many literally believe the future of democracy is at stake, nothing less is acceptable!
Primary and trusted sources of information are critical to decision-making.1 During the conventions, I turned to PBS on YouTube on my AppleTV.
PBS live-streamed the conventions uninterrupted from start to finish. No cuts. Not breaks. No commercials. No commentary. They just aired, unedited, what was happening while it happened. The party messages belonged solely to the parties who put on the conventions. PBS made zero effort to dumb it down or try to tell viewers what they should think. The viewers got to listen directly to the primary source in real time.
Thank you PBS! You are a national treasure!
The Endorsement to End All Endorsements
Obama could not have possibly endorsed Hillary Clinton to any greater extent than he did. These photos, at the end of his endorsement speech, when Hillary unexpectedly appeared, say it all. The photos speak on so many levels.
Remember, Stoid, during our childhood in the deep, deeply racist South we grew up in, having a black man touch a white woman was said to be worse than anything anyone could possibly imagine? The white supremacists, like Donald Trump and his ilk, must be s****ing themselves over the extent to which President Obama embraced, literally and figuratively, Hillary Clinton! This was one of the most beautiful moments in the whole convention! Black man. White lady. Diversity! Embrace! Unity!
We have come so far. Yet we have so far to go!
But, I invite you to listen to his entire speech. It was deeply, deeply moving. I firmly believe he is the greatest president of my lifetime. Here is the link to the PBS video on YouTube. I also present it below. More primary sources from other convention speakers to follow. Listen and decide for yourself the extent of any endorsement of Hillary Clinton.
Everyone remember: When the quality of one’s ideas is low and the stakes are high: they will lie to you! Keep informed with primary and trusted sources!
And no, Fox News is neither a primary nor a trusted source. Fox deliberately cut and edited their broadcast to keep their listeners ignorant of key things. I’ll have more on that in a later post. ↩
