I learned that Spotify just updated their Terms of Service (TOS). Like Facebook, they want as much information about me as they can get. They should change their name to Spotispy. For example, they now are collecting:
- Where you are 24/7
- How fast you are moving
- Your contacts’ information in your address book
- All of the media files on your device (your pictures, music and video)
- Snooping around your Facebook account
Additionally, they want to share your information with 3rd parties, whoever they are. Now, keep in mind, paying customers are being victimized in this way! And, to add insult to injury, you are paying for the bandwidth they use to gather the data off of your device. So, you pay twice to use Spotispy! So, if you’re like me, you get that warm fuzzy feeling all over — that feeling of getting ripped off.
So, what can I and my fellow Spotify users do about this?
So, effective about 10 minutes ago, I killed my Spotify Premium account. I deleted all of their apps the day before. Since they did not allow me to tell them the explicit reason I terminated my account (just: “other”), I’m making it public via this post and Twitter.
Notice to every service that tries to force me, as a paying customer, to allow you collect my data and do whatever the hell you feel like doing with it: Screw you! I will drop you like a hot potato!!
