Over the years I’ve made numerous purchases (tens of thousands of dollars) from B&H Photo Video in New York City. They have good prices and a quick turn around. Additionally, I immediately save 8.5% because they don’t bill sales tax.
“It will be available at the end of the month.” “We checked with Apple, and we will have it in 6 weeks.” Then they said, “It will be in our warehouses in 7 – 10 business days.” And finally, when I called to cancel the order in a rage, “We will call you the minute it comes in, just in case you haven’t received it from Apple.”
They never called.
At this point, I didn’t care if I saved the $900. I wanted the computer. I called Apple and told them the nightmare I had endured for 3 months trying to get their computer from B&H. They told me I would have it in 3 – 5 weeks. Oh dear. “Are we starting this all over again? Does this machine really exist?” I asked.
Apple actually sold me the computer and AppleCare for several hundred less (total cost including sales tax) than B&H was selling the same machine with AppleCare and no sales tax!
I don’t know what the issue was/is with B&H. Maybe the issue was with Apple selling to resellers. Again, I don’t know, but I will think long and hard before ever buy from B&H again. I just felt that they were not being honest in their dealings with me.
My new machine is en route and will be here this week! I can’t wait!
