Someone has finally provided an interactive map of the most photographed places in the world, and, naturally, it would be Google!

It’s like a map with a heat overlay. The hottest areas are the places with the most uploaded photos in Google’s Panoramio service. You can filter by region or the type of location you want to see. You can drill all the way down to the individual photos in that area.

The interactive search map is called Sightsmap. Interestingly, Europe is vastly the most photographed area in the world. In fact, the top 10 most photographed places in the world are:

  1. New York City*
  2. Rome*
  3. Barcelona
  4. Paris*
  5. Istanbul
  6. Venice*
  7. Florence
  8. Monte Carlo
  9. Budapest*
  10. Buenos Aires

The most photographed areas of Europe are:

  1. Rome*
  2. Barcelona
  3. Paris*
  4. Istanbul
  5. Venice*
  6. Monte Carlo
  7. Florence
  8. Budapest*
  9. Prague*
  10. Madrid*

And, finally, the most photographed areas of the North America are:

  1. New York*
  2. Niagara Falls
  3. Chicago*
  4. San Francisco*
  5. Havana

I recommend you check out Sightsmap. It’s a welcomed tool!

**I shot this photo this past weekend. The cliffs are staggeringly high as you can see when you factor in the scale of the people standing on the top of the far cliff.
