For the Record

A few quirky tidbits of interest…

Shoals

Fiat 500 572x334 photo in the post: For the Record, at www.timtyson.usA group of squid isn’t, unfortunately, called a squad, but is instead called a shoal. What a shame. (Source: BoingBoing.net) However, be it known, that I am officially introducing several words into the language: people who own one of these cute little new Fiats are called Fiatecians (Fee – uh – tee – zshians). And the plural of Prius is Prei (Pree – eye).

Rabbit Ears

Rabbit Ears

The younger among the reading public probably have not seen these out in the wild, but these are called rabbit ears and were very common once upon a time long, long ago. No, really. This was pre-Netflix, pre-iTunes, pre-DVDs, pre-VCR… (Source: BoingBoing)

Laser Assisted Crosswalk

I love this laser-assisted crosswalk signage concept. I’m amazed more people aren’t killed here in San Francisco on Market Street. It’s bedlam at rush hour!

War on Xmas

That whole “war on Christmas” ruse isn’t about Christ. It’s about the deity of capitalism and materialism. I, for one, refuse to keep Capitalism in Christmas with its pathetic camping out in store parking lots and trampling over people, just acting like savages. (By the way, my friend Dan keeps the Yule in Yuletide. Hysterical!)

Nothing Says Capitalism Like Waiting In Line To Get Screwed By People With More Money Than You. Camping in public places to demand important things like economic justice and equality is now mostly illegal in many places. But if there’s, like, a REALLY good sale going on somewhere, then happy shopping!”

Wikipedia (well-known authoritative reference) says they can be called an “audience” (which works for me as I understand they are curious creatures) or a “roundup.” Art Feenan (less well-known and somewhat less-authoritative reference) says its permissible (and even more proper) to refer to them as a “Squad” or a “Squiggle” or even a “Squirm”, especially in California which makes its own rules (assuming the legislature doesn’t object).

Please export squid to blog as aquarium clouding over and goldfish pouting. Goldfish inquiring what their little group is called. I told them it is a “cadre” but they are not satisfied. They are holding out for “cabal”.

The very indignity! They’re a junta! (the archaic spelling began with the more proper “g.”
